Something is worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

Something is worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

Do you remember the Furbee craze? Every year at Christmas time, there seems to be a toy that is the craze, and people are willing to pay way more money than it’s worth just because they have to have it for this Christmas. It’s crazy really. It reminds me of Dwight on the office, when “Princess Unicorn” is the craze, so he bought them all and marked them up 200%.

Even though, in all reality, Furbee or Princess Unicorn are only worth a very small amount of money – when they become wanted by a lot of people, their worth goes up. A lot.

Why? Because people are willing to pay that much for it. And that’s how you determine the worth of something.

What does that say about you? Well, at SixEight, we believe every human being is made in God’s image. Because of this they deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. That’s how we try to operate.

That, in and of itself would communicate a tremendous value. You are worth a lot because you are made in God’s image.

But, that’s not all. We also believe (actually we know for a fact) that Jesus, the Son of God, the Messiah, paid for your life with his own. The Bible tells us: For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45). Jesus gave His life to pay the ransom for your life.

That means Jesus paid the price to set you free.

On the flip side, this world tells us the exact opposite. This world will tell us that we only have worth if we perform certain functions. This world will tell us we only have worth if we look a certain way, or if we live in a certain part of town. And our world delineates worth 0n a big and crazy scale. You might have value, but there are others who have more.

But that’s not God’s truth for you. That’s the lie this world would have you believe. Not only that, that’s the lie that many of us find ourselves trapped in. We are bound by this lie that our worth is tied up in what we offer. But God’s truth for you is that you were created with value that can never be taken away, and God valued your life so much that He was willing to pay for your new and free life with the life of His one and only son.

You are worth quite a lot!
